Wandre, Rue Bois la Dame

Wandre is just about the least attractive military cemetery of all Belgian military cemeteries. Located right next to a forest park that is used more as landfill than as recreation facility, the cemetery is prey to general deterioration.

You will not believe your eyes, but this was the situation at the entrance to the cemetery on August 16, 2012, however, the tombstones themselves are in good condition, as indeed on all our military cemeteries.

The picture below shows the conditions on August 16, 2014...

On an area of 1 and an half acres we find 213 Belgian casualties of the first hour of The Great War. Of the 188 known soldiers only eight died later than August 6, 1914. Again more than 10%, only known to God (25).
