The city of Aarschot was a martyr city, set ablaze by the Germans in August 1914. It was also the scene of fierce fighting.

It should therefore come as no surprise that there is also a honorary park with 92 of our fallen heroes in the cemetery at the Herseltsesteenweg.

The presence of 21 unknown soldiers among them proves the intensity of that fighting.

These soldiers died all on August 19, 1914 or a few days later from the effects of injuries sustained on that day.
