The honorary park at the Palinghuizen cemetery in Gent contains 147 tombstones of our World War One heroes. Seven of them with unknown nameplate.
When we had our photo shoot on November 28, 2012, most of the leaves had come off the trees and had fluttered to the ground, but not yet cleared. That gives a somewhat sloppy impression.
The city of Gent had opted for Belgian national standard tombstone. The tombstones themselves, however, were in poor condition. I have not been back since then and do not know what the city has done, if anything, to make improvements in this situation.
