At the Rue de Herne in Liège we find the largest cemetery in the city of Liège. Here are the remains of 309 of our fallen soldiers that succumbed in World War I. Five remained anonymous. 71 died after the end of the war in the local military hospital.
The honorary park, with a somewhat grotesque-looking monument, is huge and there are casualties of many nationalities and religions. Here also, the individual tombstones are in a poor state of maintenance.
The city of Liège also developed their own design of the tombstone. This stone is unique. Below is an example, but the nameplate is gone.
