The Dendermonde cemetery is located at the end of the Kerkhofweg alley in the Appels district of Dendermonde.

Already in March 1918, well before the end of the war, the Belgian heroes, who had fallen in the defenses of Dendermonde and its surrounding villages, were united in a park of honor at this cemetery.

In individual graves 134 soldiers are buried, of which 23 have never been identified. In the common grave, besides, there are also twenty local heroes. Their remains are under the lawn in front of the soldier's monument.

Here we find the tomb of Kamiel Pype of Beselare, who died in Buggenhout and whom was buried, as a result of an administrative error, under a plaque "unknown soldier". This error was corrected only in August 2016.
